ccording to a new survey compiled by blockchain entertainment provider Coda Labs, traditional gamers have yet to heat up to crypto or NFTs. They show little interest in Web3 games despite the massive investment in gaming.

Gamers' main reason for avoiding Web3 is a lack of knowledge about how they work and an absence of a blockchain wallet. Only 12% of non-crypto gamers have attempted it, with only 15% planning to do so in the future.

The most acknowledged term associated with Web3 games is play-to-earn (P2E), and the most generally perceived benefit of playing them is crypto earnings.

When these two aspects are taken together, the findings confirm what many industry players have recently stated — that gamers prefer to play a "fun game" rather than the tokenomics attributed to many blockchain games.

According to the survey results, those who had managed to play Web3 were optimistic about them, with traditional gamers rating them at 7.1 out of 10, while crypto gamers evaluated them at 8.3.

Kevin Shao, executive president of the Asia Blockchain Gaming Alliance (ABGA), suggested that the emphasis on the P2E and NFTs aspects of blockchain may be what is preventing GameFi from becoming more widely adopted.

Shao believes that the release of "triple-A" titles such as Phantom Galaxies and Big Time will help shift gamers' perceptions of blockchain games away from P2E features and onboard people who want to play solely for fun.

The survey, which ran from June 2022 to June 2023, received reactions from 6,921 people from five different nations. To be eligible for the survey, respondents had to play video games twice a month, use a crypto wallet, trade on a decentralized exchange, or trade an NFT in the previous 30 days.
