You would think that a celebrity like Madonna could buy any yacht she wants, but it seems the Queen of Pop has been pining over this one particular boat. The Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT is listed on OpenSea for an eye-watering 800ETH or around $1 million.

However, Madonna is upset about a particular rainbow-toothed ape. The singer told Variety she’s been pining over her dream NFT, which has "trippy" fur and an S&M hat.

"I was dead set on getting an Ape and very particular about what I wanted: the Ape with a leather motorcycle cap on and multicolored teeth," Madonna explained. "I was told it was inspired by me and modeled after me, and a fan of mine purchased it." She was planning on selling it to me, but it was far too expensive."

The NFTs are unique blockchain tokens that signify ownership over an asset—in this case, a 2D image of the Ape- with other membership benefits like merchandising and special access to events.

When asked if the singer inspired Ape #3756 or its characteristics, BAYC creators Yuga Labs replied via email that Apes "aren't necessarily designed or modeled after anyone specifically."

"The Yuga Labs team loves it when people recognize themselves in certain apes. The S&M hat is one of the founders' favorite features in the collection; they adore anything punk rock. "Madonna helped popularize that style, which the founders enjoy," a Yuga Labs representative told Decrypt.

In a surprising twist of fate, the iconic singer-songwriter Madonna acquired the NFT Bored Ape #4988 Ethereum NFT through MoonPay. The crypto payments company handed over 180 ETH ($466000) for this cryptocurrency back in March and transferred it to her wallet.

However, #4988 is not a bad consolation prize. Like Ape #3756, Ape Madonna wears the black S&M hat and psychedelic fur. However, Rarity Sniper data shows that it is significantly less rare—the NFT she wants is ranked 123rd, while the one she owns is ranked 3,754 out of the 10,000 NFTs in the collection.

Rarity in NFT collections is determined by the number of times a specific trait appears on an asset. The NFT is rarer the fewer times a trait appears in the entire collection. A rarity score is thus a cumulative rating based on the relative rarity of each feature on a single asset compared to the rest of the collection.

Madonna's ambitions extend beyond Bored Apes

The singer owns two World of Women NFTs that cost around $13,000 each. She also created one Otherdeed (a Yuga Labs NFT that grants holders access to the upcoming Otherside metaverse game).

Madonna has taken her talents to the world of cryptocurrency, working with Beeple for a year and developing three very NSFW Ethereum NFTs called “ Mother Of Creation.” The first was sold off in May at 170 ETH ($6655), which went towards charity, while two more were released last month, selling out simultaneously (one for 72k USD) as well.
