In the early hours of April 4, Bob Lee, the creator of Cash App and former chief technology officer of Square, died after being stabbed in San Francisco. Although local media outlet SFGATE reported on his death without naming him, Abra CEO Bill Barhydt confirmed Lee's identity and announced his death via a tweet on April 5.

According to a statement released on April 4 by the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to a stabbing report around 2:35 am local time and discovered a male victim, aged 43, who appeared to have been stabbed. The officers provided medical assistance and called for an ambulance, and the victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, the victim died as a result of his injuries.

According to reports, Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter and co-founder of Square, confirmed the death of Bob Lee on the decentralized social media platform, Nostr. A screenshot of Dorsey's post reads, "It's real. Getting calls. Heartbreaking."

On April 5, ex-UFC fighter Jake Shields posted on Twitter that Bob Lee was his good friend and was attacked in one of San Francisco's nice neighborhoods.
