The 25-year-old Information Engineering Department at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology has been renamed the Metaverse Engineering Department.
According to Hong Kong media HK01, Pan Zhigeng, dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence — which the metaverse dept belongs — said the school intends to collectively train master's, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows centered on the metaverse in the long term.
The university and the Yalong Intelligent Equipment Group reached an agreement in August to establish a Research Institute. Yalong is a company that provides enterprise-level robot and digital transformation solutions.
The metaverse is generally thought of as a collection of technologies related to interacting with virtual worlds; cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are examples of virtual assets that will be used in it.
In 2022, research organizations began to emerge in China. Tencent, Huawei, and Epic Games established an interactive virtual interaction research facility in August in collaboration with several Chinese universities. The Renmin University of China launched the Metaverse Research Center in April.
